About the Role
As a 3D Creature Artist at Epoch Games, you will be responsible for creating realistic and fantastical creatures that will inhabit the world of 'The Lays of Althas: Sundered Order'. This is a volunteer position that requires a high level of skill and dedication, as well as the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment. You will be working closely with the game development team to bring the game's vision to life, and will have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a truly unique and immersive gaming experience.The team at Epoch Games is passionate about creating a game that is not only visually stunning but also engaging and interactive. As a 3D creature artist, you will play a key role in bringing the game's creatures to life, and will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of characters, from realistic human characters to fantastical creatures.
The game development team at Epoch Games is fully remote, and communication is key to the team's success. You will be expected to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with the team, and to be able to work independently and as part of a team.
What You Will Do
- Create realistic and fantastical creatures for the game using mesh sculpting and texturing techniques
- Work with the game development team to bring the game's vision to life
- Create fur and hair sculpts using hair card and alpha planes
- Use physically-based rendering (PBR) techniques to create game-ready assets
- Work with low-poly and game-ready assets to create optimized models for the game
- Create full textures for the creatures, including diffuse, normal, and displacement maps
- Work effectively and accurately from pre-defined concept art and designs
- Provide constructive criticism and feedback to the team
- Attend meetings and communicate with the team through Slack
- Follow team policies and procedures
What We Are Looking For
- Experience with 3D modeling software such as 3DS Max, Maya, or Blender
- Experience with texturing software such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Substance Painter, or Marmoset
- Experience with physically-based rendering (PBR) techniques
- Experience working with low-poly and game-ready assets
- Ability to create realistic and fantastical creatures
- Strong communication and team collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a remote team environment
- English fluency
- Passion for modeling and dedication to creating AAA quality games
Nice to Have
- Experience with Unreal Engine 4
- Experience with rigging and skinning 3D creatures
- Experience with teaching or mentoring junior team members
- Experience working on a game development team
- Knowledge of game development pipelines and workflows
