Job Description

About the Role

The Account Director, Client Strategy, is a pivotal position at Directive, serving as the senior strategic and commercial owner of a portfolio of high-value client relationships. This role is at the forefront of Directive's divisions, including Performance, Communications, and Commerce, and is responsible for aligning these teams around unified business outcomes. As a trusted advisor to VP- and C-suite stakeholders, the successful candidate will act with autonomy, commercial rigor, and executive presence, driving retention, expansion, and client experience.

Day-to-day, this role entails developing and executing renewal, upsell, and cross-sell strategies tied directly to Net Revenue Retention (NRR) performance. The Account Director will also design integrated growth plans across Paid Media, SEO/Content, CRO, Creative, and RevOps, ensuring cohesive execution and reporting. Commercial ownership, including forecasting, margin health, scope control, and renewal negotiations, is another critical aspect of this position.

Directive operates in a fast-paced environment, characterized by bold thinking and a commitment to performance. As such, the ideal candidate will be someone who thrives in a dynamic setting, is driven by challenges, and is adept at solving complex problems. The ability to communicate effectively with executive stakeholders, translate performance data into compelling business narratives, and lead cross-functional teams is essential.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and execute renewal, upsell, and cross-sell strategies to drive Net Revenue Retention (NRR)

  • Translate performance data into clear business narratives that connect marketing execution to revenue impact
  • Lead QBRs and executive storytelling to communicate client performance and growth strategies
  • Partner with channel leads, PMs, and operations to align priorities, manage risk, and maintain delivery excellence
  • Proactively identify and mitigate client risks before escalation to executive leadership
  • Mentor strategists, analysts, and project teams to elevate strategic thinking and commercial accountability

What We Are Looking For

  • 7–12 years of experience in agency or client services roles, with significant exposure to B2B SaaS or technology clients
  • Proven experience owning renewals, upsell, and cross-sell motions across a $2M+ portfolio
  • Strong fluency across Paid Media, SEO/Content, CRO, Creative, and RevOps
  • Experience partnering with VP-, CMO-, and CRO-level client stakeholders
  • Driven to stay ahead of industry trends, including actively learning about AI and automation in marketing and operations
  • Executive communication skills, with the ability to translate performance into business impact
  • Commercial acumen, including comfort with forecasts, margins, scope, and renewal economics
  • Strategic operator with the ability to set direction while maintaining operational discipline
  • Cross-functional leadership skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority

Nice to Have

  • Experience with project management tools and software
  • Certification in marketing analytics or a related field
  • Fluency in multiple marketing automation platforms
  • Experience with data visualization tools for executive reporting

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary package
  • Opportunity for professional growth in a dynamic and expanding company
  • Comprehensive health insurance
  • Generous PTO and holiday package
  • Remote work stipend and support for home office setup

  • Develop a portfolio that showcases your ability to drive retention and expansion through strategic client management.
  • Be prepared to discuss your experience with cross-functional team leadership and your approach to risk management.
  • Highlight any experience you have with AI and automation in marketing and operations, as this is a growing area of interest.
  • When negotiating salary, be prepared to discuss your expectations based on industry standards and your experience.
  • Be cautious of roles that do not offer clear opportunities for growth or professional development, as these can be indicative of a lack of investment in employee potential.
