About the Role

As an Account Director, Startups at OpenAI, you will play a critical role in managing a portfolio of strategically important startup accounts, developing and executing comprehensive account plans to drive growth and adoption of OpenAI's AI models. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, solutions, marketing, and product management, to ensure that startup customers receive the necessary support and resources to build successful products and services using OpenAI's APIs.

The Startups Go To Market team is responsible for helping startups harness the power of AI to drive innovation and growth. As an Account Director, you will be the primary relationship owner for a set of key startup accounts, working to understand their needs and priorities, and developing tailored solutions to support their success. This role requires a deep understanding of the startup ecosystem, as well as the ability to communicate technical concepts to both internal and external stakeholders.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a portfolio of startup accounts, developing and executing comprehensive account plans to drive growth and adoption of OpenAI's AI models
  • Partner with solutions architects to drive successful technical engagements with startups, accelerating their product development process
  • Own a consumption revenue target and manage consumption revenue forecasts
  • Analyze key account metrics to create reports and provide insights to internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, communications, business operations, people operations, finance, product management, and engineering
  • Serve as an advocate for improving the startup experience building with OpenAI, synthesizing product feedback from insights captured from work with startups
  • Closely monitor the industry landscape and startup landscape, contributing to corporate strategies
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of other teammates
  • Support the development of company culture

What We Are Looking For

  • 6+ years of experience selling platform-as-a-service, cloud, or other API products
  • Experience working in or around the startup ecosystem, preferably as either a founder of a startup, an employee of a startup, or someone who has worked with startup customers
  • Supporting the growth and product development of fast-growing, high-performance companies
  • Working directly with C-level executives and startup founders
  • Communicating technical concepts to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Gathering, distilling, and processing complex market intelligence
  • Strong understanding of AI and machine learning concepts
  • Experience with sales and account management tools, such as CRM software

  • Experience working with AI and machine learning products
