Job Description

About the Role

The Account Director, Startups will play a critical role in driving the growth and adoption of OpenAI's AI models among top startup customers. This role will be responsible for owning relationships with key startup accounts, developing and executing comprehensive account plans, and working cross-functionally with various teams to drive successful technical engagements. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the startup ecosystem, experience working with AI technologies, and a proven track record of driving revenue growth.

As a key member of the Go To Market team, the Account Director will work closely with the sales, solutions, support, marketing, and partnership teams to create valuable solutions for startup customers. This role will require a deep understanding of the startup landscape, industry trends, and the ability to communicate technical concepts to customers and internal stakeholders.

The Account Director will be based in Munich and will be expected to work closely with the local team, as well as with remote teams across the globe. OpenAI offers a hybrid work model, with 3 days in the office per week, and relocation assistance to new employees.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a portfolio of startup accounts, developing and executing comprehensive account plans
  • Partner with solutions architects to drive successful technical engagements with startups
  • Own a consumption revenue target and manage consumption revenue forecasts
  • Analyze key account metrics to create reports and provide insights to internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, communications, business operations, people operations, finance, product management, and engineering
  • Serve as an advocate for improving the startup experience building with OpenAI
  • Closely monitor the industry landscape and startup landscape and contribute to corporate strategies
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of other teammates
  • Support the development of company culture

What We Are Looking For

  • 6+ years of experience selling platform-as-a-service, cloud, or other API products
  • Experience working in or around the startup ecosystem, preferably as either a founder of a startup, an employee of a startup, or someone who worked with startup customers
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and managing complex sales cycles
  • Strong understanding of AI technologies and the ability to communicate technical concepts to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Experience working directly with C-level executives and startup founders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze key account metrics and create reports and provide insights
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with AI models and machine learning technologies
  • Knowledge of the German startup ecosystem and market trends
  • Fluency in German, in addition to English
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high level of ambiguity
