Job Description

About the Role

The Accountant position at Clinton Health Access Initiative is a short-term engagement that plays a critical role in managing the organization's global finances. As a key member of the finance team, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining financial records, auditing transactions, and producing monthly reports. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently.

The finance team at CHAI is based in Boston and provides operational support to programmatic teams working in over 35 countries. The team's focus is on improving access to quality healthcare and addressing various health issues, including HIV, vaccines, malaria, and maternal and newborn health. The Accountant will work closely with the Deputy Director of Accounting and other team members to ensure the accurate and timely completion of financial tasks.

What You Will Do

  • Review monthly cash reports from country teams for accuracy and compliance with accounting principles
  • Reconcile monthly bank and balance sheet activity from country teams
  • Prepare and process journal entries in the central ERP system
  • Review staff time tabulation and distribute payroll costs to appropriate general ledger accounts
  • Monitor financial activity on assigned programs and prepare expenditure reports for program managers as needed
  • Prepare and analyze complex financial statements related to various fund types and account groups
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including intercompany reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly preliminary and final financial statements

What We Are Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in accounting or a related field
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and programmatic skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience working with ERP systems and financial software
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field
  • Certification in accounting (CPA or equivalent) is an asset
