About the Role
The Accounting Lead at Affirm plays a critical role in ensuring the company's financial soundness and strategic positioning for growth. As part of the Finance and Accounting team, this role manages financial planning, accounting, pricing, vendor management, tax, investor relations, and corporate development. With a focus on delivering timely insights and accurate reporting, the Accounting Lead enables sustainable and informed growth.The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and be proficient in accounting systems. They will be motivated to drive processes that contribute to the achievement of an efficient monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting processes. With a strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver results under deadlines, the Accounting Lead will work effectively in a rapidly changing environment.

What You Will Do
- Lead targeted cross-functional initiatives to remediate existing control deficiencies and implement operational efficiencies into the month-end close process.
- Develop a project plan and clearly communicate project goals, updates, resource needs, and business outcomes.
- Act as the point of contact between the Operational close teams and partners in Product, Engineering, Financial Platforms, Financial Systems, and Technical Accounting.
- Proactively review current procedures and seek ways to improve processes to ensure timely monthly close, accuracy of accounting entries, and operational efficiency.
- Develop deep expertise in existing accounting processes and recommend a path forward that balances scalability, level of effort, time to deliver, financial risk, and cost.
- Work with the Record-to-Report team to understand problem areas and translate requirements into report requests with the Financial Systems team.
- Resolve one-off business topics and complex cross-functional issues as assigned by the Director of Core Business.
- Collaborate with the Technical Accounting team on accounting policy implementation and adherence.
- Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts to support business decisions.
What We Are Looking For
- 4+ years of relevant professional experience, with public accounting experience preferred.
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and the ability to partner with the Technical Accounting team.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPS, conditional statements, pivot tables, data analysis, and what-if-analysis.
- SQL experience or a strong interest in developing SQL skills.
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to foster cross-functional collaboration.
- Desire to improve processes and make your own job easier over time, taking ownership of all aspects of your functional area.
- Passion for Affirm and a strong interest in technology, money movement, BNPL, and consumer lending.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with financial planning and analysis tools, such as Anaplan or Adaptive Insights.
- Knowledge of accounting software, such as NetSuite or SAP.
- Certification in accounting, such as CPA or CMA.
- Experience in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
