About the Role

The Actuarial Analyst role at agilon health is a critical position that involves working closely with the regional manager to update medical margin models for assigned markets. These models are used to inform monthly close results, budget, and quarterly forecasts, making this role essential to the company's financial planning and decision-making process. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in actuarial science, mathematics, or economics, and will be able to demonstrate their ability to analyze complex data sets and provide insightful recommendations.

As an Actuarial Analyst, you will be responsible for identifying drivers of prior period development in medical margin and providing deep insights into emerging trends in the market. You will also be required to prepare materials for presenting close results to Market Finance leaders and calculate final cash settlements for MA payer contracts. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as you will be working closely with various stakeholders, including Market Finance, FP&A, Accounting, and Med Econ teams.

What You Will Do

  • Update medical margin models for monthly close process
  • Research and identify prior period development in medical margin
  • Use med econ tools to provide deep insight of trend drivers
  • Prepare materials for presenting close results to Market Finance leaders
  • Calculate final cash settlements for MA payer contracts
  • Prepare internal/external audit documentation
  • Inform assumptions for budget/quarterly forecasts
  • Perform analyses to support ad-hoc requests from Market Finance team
  • Support business development/payer contracting assumptions
  • Collaborate with Market Finance, FP&A, Accounting, Med Econ, and other teams
  • Exemplify company's core values and contribute to a positive work environment

What We Are Looking For

  • 1-2 years of relevant actuarial experience within a healthcare and/or managed care organization
  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Economics, or a related field
  • 2+ actuarial exams passed
  • Ability to manipulate and interpret large data sets (particularly health care claims and membership data)
  • Experience in actuarial field, including knowledge of best techniques for analyzing healthcare issues and modeling solutions
  • Familiarity with IBNR reserve development, product pricing, and health insurance products
  • Proficiency in Excel and SQL
  • Strong communication, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where internal/external client satisfaction is key

  • Experience with Medicare Advantage products
