AI Deployment Engineer, Messenger Integrations

About the Role

As part of the Technical Success team, the successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor and thought partner for customers, ensuring they maximize the value from Openai's models and products. This is a hands-on, partner-facing engineering role that requires a strong software engineering background and excellent communication skills. The ability to write code daily, make changes across platform surfaces when needed, and move fluidly between technical discovery, product tradeoffs, prototyping, debugging, and executive-level communication is essential.

The role is based in Openai's San Francisco office, with a hybrid work model that includes 3 days in the office per week. Relocation assistance is available to new employees. Given the nature of the work, occasional travel to meet with international partners during key integration, launch, and post-launch milestones will be required.

What You Will Do

• Partner with messenger app product and engineering teams to design ChatGPT-powered experiences that fit naturally into chat, group, contact, and app-tab surfaces.
• Deepen existing partner integrations, focusing on improving user experience, retention, reliability, and feature set.
• Build prototypes, integration guides, reference flows, and launch checklists to help partners move from concept to production.
• Debug API, latency, authentication, quota, quality, and user-experience issues across partner and Openai systems.
• Translate privacy, trust, login, and data-handling requirements into clear technical constraints and implementation plans.
• Work with product, engineering, design, partnerships, legal, policy, and support teams to ensure partner launches are reliable, scalable, and maintainable.
• Capture repeatable patterns from messenger integrations and turn them into reusable playbooks for future ecosystem partners.
• Collaborate with internal teams to align integration efforts with Openai's overall strategy and roadmap.
• Travel periodically to meet with international partners, facilitating strategic discussions and resolving technical issues.

What We Are Looking For

• A strong software engineering background with the ability to write code daily.
• Experience in building or deploying API integrations with external partners, including reasoning across client, backend, auth, privacy, reliability, and UX constraints.
• Strong product sense and design judgment, especially for consumer-facing experiences.
• Ability to communicate clearly with engineers, product leaders, executives, and business stakeholders.
• Experience debugging distributed systems and narrowing down broad performance or reliability issues into actionable hypotheses.
• Deep care for user trust, privacy, and product quality, particularly in communication surfaces where context is sensitive.
• Ability to balance urgency with judgment, keeping launches moving without skipping critical details.
• Experience working on B2C consumer, social, or messaging products is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with OAuth/login flows, API rate limits, webviews, and mobile applications is a plus.
