Job Description

About the Role

The AI Enablement Director plays a pivotal role in driving Backblaze's AI transformation program, which aims to fundamentally reshape how the organization operates at scale. This is a high-impact initiative with production deployments already in place. As the AI Enablement Director, you will be responsible for shaping the path forward, ensuring that AI initiatives deliver clear, measurable value that drives the business forward. You will report to the CHRO and lead the AI use case lifecycle, managing everything from initial intake to final production.

The role requires a deep understanding of AI and workflow automation, as well as exceptional program management skills. You will partner closely with functional directors to identify high-potential areas for AI integration and process transformation, ensuring these initiatives translate into tangible operational results.

What You Will Do

  • Own the use case pipeline, triaging incoming requests, refining problem statements, sizing value, and maintaining a prioritized queue across functions
  • Lead each use case through discovery, scoping, pilot, and launch, coordinating functional owners, IT, Engineering, Legal, and Finance as required
  • Conduct structured current-state assessments with department teams to map how work actually happens today
  • Identify areas where volume, repetition, or research intensity make AI a strong fit and surface use cases that would never appear in a top-down scan
  • Design the right solution, evaluating whether a given workflow calls for an off-the-shelf tool, a prompt layer, a vendor product, or a custom build
  • Engage Engineering and IT when integration or custom development is required
  • Document baselines before launch and measure the delta after
  • Govern the tool stack, owning the AI vendor evaluation process end-to-end and maintaining the AI Tool Registry with zero ungoverned deployments
  • Track spend per team monthly with cost-per-outcome visibility available to the executive team
  • Keep leadership informed, maintaining a live view of every active use case, its status, its owner, and its impact
  • Produce outcomes reports and surface role and change implications early

What We Are Looking For

  • 7+ years of experience in program management, business operations, or automation delivery, with direct experience moving AI or workflow automation initiatives from discovery to production
  • Hands-on fluency across the modern AI stack, including prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, LLM orchestration, tool evaluation, and governance
  • Experience with Excel and other productivity tools
  • Strong understanding of operational excellence and tangible results
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud storage and data management
  • Knowledge of IT, Engineering, and Finance functions
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools
  • Certification in AI, machine learning, or a related field

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Opportunity to work with a leading company in the object storage industry
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment
  • Professional development and growth opportunities
  • Flexible working hours and remote work options
  • Access to cutting-edge technologies and tools
  • Recognition and reward for outstanding performance

How to Stand Out

  • Ensure you have hands-on experience with the modern AI stack, including prompt engineering and LLM orchestration
  • Develop a strong understanding of operational excellence and how to drive tangible results
  • Familiarize yourself with Backblaze's AI transformation program and be prepared to discuss how you can contribute to its success
  • Highlight your experience with program management, business operations, and automation delivery
  • Be prepared to provide specific examples of how you've driven AI initiatives from discovery to production
  • Demonstrate your ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex ideas effectively
