About the Role
M-KOPA is seeking an experienced AI Operations Lead to join its team in the United Kingdom. As the first AI Operations Lead, you will be responsible for leading a team that designs, ships, and scales automations and AI agents across the organization. With a proven tech foundation already in place, you will be tasked with leading, scaling, and defining the future of this brand-new team. Your work will have a direct impact on the daily operations of over 2,300 employees across M-KOPA's global operations, and will play a crucial role in the company's mission to provide financial inclusion to millions of customers across Africa.The company has already made significant strides in this area, with over $2 billion in credit accessed by its customers. As AI Operations Lead, you will be at the forefront of this effort, working to build and implement intelligent tooling that will help internal teams and customer-facing staff deliver financial inclusion more efficiently and effectively.
What You Will Do
- Lead a team of AI Operations Engineers, owning their delivery, development, and day-to-day work
- Prioritize efficiently, managing competing requests from multiple teams and applying a clear prioritization framework
- Build and ship automations and agents that measurably improve the work of internal teams and customer-facing staff
- Keep the AI tooling stack healthy as usage scales across 2,500+ employees
- Stay current on emerging AI tools and technologies, evaluating their practical value and potential for implementation
- Help refine AI training for the wider organization, including Engineering teams
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify areas where automation and AI can drive efficiency and growth
- Develop and implement a clear roadmap for the AI Operations team, aligned with the company's overall strategy and goals
- Manage and mentor junior team members, providing guidance and support to help them grow in their roles
- Work closely with the Data Science team to ensure seamless integration of AI models into the company's operations
What We Are Looking For
- Hands-on experience building automations, including scripting, workflow tools, or AI-assisted development
- Experience building agents using agentic frameworks, such as LangChain, MCP, or Google ADK
- Background in enterprise tooling, including rapid prototyping tools like Vercel/Railway, identity automation tools like Entra, or internal platforms
- People leadership experience, with a proven track record of leading or mentoring engineers and owning a team's delivery and development
- Strong technical background, with a product-focused mindset and experience working with cross-functional teams
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements
Nice to Have
- Experience working with cloud-based AI platforms, such as AWS or Google Cloud
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools, such as Jenkins or Docker
- Experience working in a mission-driven organization, with a passion for using technology to drive social impact
- Certification in AI or machine learning, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
