About the Role

The AI Product Engineer position at ClickHouse is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of AI innovation, building agentic capabilities on top of a petabyte-scale observability platform. As part of the ClickStack team, you will be responsible for designing and developing AI-powered agents that can investigate incidents, propose root causes, and provide concise summaries to on-call engineers. What You Will Do

  • Build agents that can investigate incidents, surface anomalies, and answer complex questions about production environments.
  • Design and develop reusable skills that capture the team's knowledge and expertise in debugging, finding root causes, and writing queries.
  • Own the agent stack end-to-end, including context engineering, tool design, evaluations, tracing, and cost optimization.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to make ClickStack a great place to run AI workloads, building MCP servers, SDKs, and integrations.
  • Work in the open, collaborating with OSS contributors and customers to debug problems and feed lessons learned back into the product.
  • Tackle the hard parts of building AI systems, including latency, cost, context window limits, eval coverage, and hallucinations on real telemetry.
  • Develop a deep understanding of ClickHouse's technology stack and contribute to the development of new features and capabilities.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of AI-powered solutions that meet customer needs and exceed their expectations.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 1–2 years on LLM-powered systems or agents in production.
  • Strong backend skills in TypeScript/Node.js and/or Python, with the ability to work in both languages.
  • Hands-on experience building agents, including multi-step tool use, planning, memory, and error recovery.
  • Experience designing skills, such as Markdown-based workflow encodings, and a clear view on what makes a good skill.
  • Strong understanding of AI systems, including context engineering, tool design, and evaluations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on shipping often and learning from failures.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with engineers, customers, and OSS contributors.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with observability platforms and tools, such as logs, metrics, traces, and session replays.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms, such as AWS or GCP, and containerization technologies, such as Docker.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and version control systems, such as Git.
  • Experience with AI-powered chatbots or virtual assistants, and a understanding of their capabilities and limitations.
