Job Description

About the Role

The AI Program Manager position at the International Rescue Committee is a 12-month fixed-term role that sits at the heart of the organization's efforts to harness artificial intelligence for humanitarian impact. Reporting to the AI Governance and Transformation Lead, this role is crucial in driving enterprise AI projects from concept to delivery and ensuring that AI tools adopted across the organization are evaluated rigorously and responsibly. The AI Program Manager will work closely with senior leaders, technical experts, and frontline staff across the globe, operating at the intersection of technology, program delivery, and organizational change.

The International Rescue Committee is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations, working in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC is committed to restoring safety, dignity, and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure.

As a key member of the IT department, the AI Program Manager will contribute to the organization's mission by providing end-to-end solutions, including application development and integration, system deployment, user experience and change management, quality assurance and testing, and overall project management. This role requires a fast-moving, proactive problem-solver who thrives in ambiguity and is energized by the challenge of building something new in an environment where the stakes are high and the work is genuinely meaningful.

  • Draft and maintain guidance on AI governance and responsible AI adoption
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams working to embed AI into how the IRC operates

  • Collaborate with senior leaders, technical experts, and frontline staff to identify opportunities for AI adoption and to develop solutions that meet business needs
  • Ensure that AI tools adopted across the organization are evaluated rigorously and responsibly, considering factors such as data privacy, security, bias, and ethical considerations

  • Provide training and support to staff on AI governance and responsible AI adoption
