Job Description

About the Role

As an Android Software Engineer at Bjak, you will play a crucial role in building the native Android experience for the company's finance super app. This app is designed to provide users with a comprehensive platform for managing their finances, including insurance, payments, claims, and investments. You will be working closely with the product and design teams to create clean, intuitive user flows that simplify complex financial processes.

The role is based in Japan, with a hybrid work arrangement that requires you to work from the office at least three days a week. You will be part of a global team with over 20 nationalities, working together to redefine how people manage their finances. English is the primary language used across all teams, so strong communication skills in English are essential.

What You Will Do

  • Build and ship Android features using Kotlin, with a focus on delivering high-quality, reliable mobile experiences.
  • Create clean, intuitive user flows for insurance, payments, claims, renewals, and financial services, working closely with product and design teams.
  • Integrate backend APIs to ensure seamless, secure, and reliable mobile flows.
  • Improve app performance, crash rate, loading states, responsiveness, and memory usage, using analytics and user behavior data to inform your decisions.
  • Develop AI-assisted mobile experiences that genuinely enhance the user journey.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in Android and mobile technology, applying this knowledge to continuously improve the app.

What We Are Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in Android development using Kotlin.
  • Strong Android fundamentals, including experience shipping production apps.
  • Good knowledge of Jetpack, Coroutines, Flow, and modern Android architecture.
  • Experience with integrating REST APIs and debugging production issues.
  • Strong sense of mobile UX, usability, edge cases, and user flows.
  • Fast execution, high ownership, and strong attention to product quality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
  • Strong English communication skills.
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and TensorFlow Lite for on-device inference.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with app links, GitHub, or other version control systems.
  • Screenshots or examples of shipped work that demonstrate your skills and expertise.
  • Knowledge of other programming languages, such as Java or Swift.
