Job Description

About the Role

The Anthropic Fellows Program is designed to foster AI research and engineering talent by providing funding and mentorship to promising technical talent, regardless of previous experience. As a fellow, you will have the opportunity to work on an empirical project aligned with Anthropic's research priorities, with the goal of producing a public output such as a paper submission. You will be part of a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

The program is designed to last for 4 months, with the possibility of extension. During this time, you will have access to a shared workspace in either Berkeley, California or London, UK, as well as connection to the broader AI safety and security research community. You will also receive a weekly stipend and funding for compute and other research expenses.

Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems that are safe and beneficial for users and society as a whole. As a fellow, you will be contributing to this mission and helping to advance the field of AI research.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct research on an empirical project aligned with Anthropic's research priorities
  • Produce a public output such as a paper submission
  • Collaborate with Anthropic researchers and engineers to design and implement research projects
  • Participate in weekly research meetings and discussions
  • Contribute to the development of Anthropic's AI systems and tools
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of AI research and engineering
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure high-quality code
  • Collaborate with other teams to integrate research into Anthropic's products
  • Communicate research results and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Participate in the development of research proposals and grant applications

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong foundation in AI and machine learning concepts
  • Excellent research and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or C++
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools
  • Knowledge of reinforcement learning and its applications
  • Strong understanding of computer science and software engineering principles
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and distributed computing
  • Familiarity with open-source models and public APIs

Nice to Have

  • Experience with deep learning and neural networks
  • Knowledge of natural language processing and computer vision
  • Familiarity with containerization using Docker
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
