About the Role

The Architects & Engineers Underwriting Specialist will play a critical role in The Hanover Insurance Group's Professional Liability team, identifying, soliciting, and underwriting new business opportunities. As a key member of the team, this individual will be responsible for driving agency relationships, analyzing complex risk profiles, and developing strategic underwriting plans. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the architects and engineers professional liability market and a proven track record of success in underwriting and business development.

The role will involve working closely with internal stakeholders, including underwriting teams, claims professionals, and sales leaders, to drive business growth and profitability. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned underwriting professional with a strong network of industry contacts and a deep understanding of the professional liability landscape.

What You Will Do

  • Identify and solicit new business opportunities in the architects and engineers professional liability market
  • Conduct thorough risk analyses and develop strategic underwriting plans to drive business growth and profitability
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agencies and brokers to drive new business and retain existing accounts
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement underwriting strategies and protocols
  • Analyze industry trends and regulatory changes to stay ahead of the competition
  • Develop and maintain expertise in the architects and engineers professional liability market
  • Provide training and guidance to less experienced underwriters and support staff
  • Travel to meetings, conferences, and client sites as required (15-20% of the time)
  • Manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
  • Identify, analyze, and solve problems, and adapt quickly to changing circumstances
  • Proactively share knowledge and expertise with peers, management, and leadership

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field (e.g., insurance, business, engineering)
  • 3-5+ years of experience in architects and engineers professional liability underwriting
  • Proven track record of success in underwriting and business development
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to analyze complex risk profiles and develop strategic underwriting plans
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with agencies, brokers, and internal stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
  • Ability to travel 15-20% of the time
  • Strong knowledge of the architects and engineers professional liability market, including industry trends and regulatory changes
