About the Role

The Area Manager - New Grad role at Flexport represents an exciting opportunity for recent graduates to launch their careers in a dynamic and innovative organization. As a key member of the Flexport team, you will be responsible for managing a process and a team on the operating floor, leveraging your skills in Excel and Google Sheets to drive efficiency and effectiveness. This role is part of the company's efforts to make global trade easy for everyone, and as such, you will be working closely with various stakeholders to achieve this mission.

The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will involve coaching, managing, and developing a team of 30-100 associates, ensuring compliance with company policies and safety regulations, and creating a collaborative and productive work environment. You will also be responsible for communicating policies to your team, maintaining consistency, and taking corrective action when needed. Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in supporting all safety programs and OSHA compliance, ensuring a safe work environment for all associates.

As an Area Manager, you will be an integral part of the Operations team, working closely with cross-functional parties to troubleshoot and resolve fulfillment-related problems. Your ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop action plans will be essential in driving process improvements and achieving the company's goals.

What You Will Do

  • Coach, manage, and develop a team of 30-100 associates to achieve operational excellence
  • Communicate policies to your team and act as the primary information source for the team, maintaining compliance, consistency, and taking corrective action when needed
  • Create, manage, and support recognition programs across your department to boost morale and productivity
  • Support all safety programs and OSHA compliance to ensure a safe work environment for all associates
  • Ensure procedures are followed for building security and product loss prevention
  • Own performance reporting for your areas of responsibility within the fulfillment center, including on-time receiving and shipping, inventory accuracy, and packing quality
  • Consistently hold yourself and your team to strict SLA expectations, providing clear and concise verbal and written reports of performance and action plans when needed
  • Facilitate troubleshooting with relevant cross-functional parties for fulfillment-related problems
  • Serve as an escalation point to mitigate risks and resolve issues
  • Measure and respond to gaps in inventory accuracy, facilitating strategic initiatives to identify root causes and resolve them
  • Review defect rates to identify trends and expose opportunities to improve operations both internally and across the network
  • Track learnings and best practices to contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

What We Are Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience managing staff of 5 or more
  • Proven ability to drive process improvements and keep pace with the company's growth
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to coach, manage, and develop a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, with the ability to analyze data and develop action plans
  • Ability to lift up to 49 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach, and to stand/walk for up to 10-12 hours
  • Ability to work in an environment where the noise level varies and can be loud, and where the temperature may vary between 60 and 90 degrees and will occasionally exceed 90 degrees
  • Ability to work on a secure mezzanine at a height of up to 40 feet (applies to buildings with mezzanines)
