About the Role
The Art Director position at The Atlantic Monthly Group LLC is a unique opportunity for a creative professional to join a team of innovative storytellers. This role entails creating original illustrations for daily coverage and digital features, commissioning and art directing assignments, and occasionally working on special projects and the magazine. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of illustration and design for digital platforms and an enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced news environment.As a key member of the team, the Art Director will be responsible for bringing an editorial voice through illustration and design, thinking outside the box in their approach and practice. They will work closely with the editorial team to conceptualize and create visual content that resonates with The Atlantic's audience.

What You Will Do
- Create original illustrations for daily coverage and digital features
- Commission and art direct assignments
- Collaborate with the editorial team to conceptualize and create visual content
- Work on special projects and the magazine
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of illustration and design for digital platforms
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in digital media
- Ensure all work meets The Atlantic's design, production, and editorial standards
- Work independently to complete tasks and meet deadlines
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute to the development of new ideas
- Provide feedback and guidance to junior team members
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience working in editorial design, illustration, digital media, or other relevant fields
- Mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud
- Experience with motion graphics and video editing preferred
- Familiarity with Figma preferred
- Close attention to detail and the ability to multitask
- Clear and concise communication skills
- Experience in journalism or a news-related environment strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of digital and traditional mediums
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Nice to Have
- Experience with content management systems
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS
- Familiarity with project management tools
