About the Role
The Assistant Controller position at JC Davis Power is a critical role that supports the financial operations of the company. As a key member of the accounting team, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting budgeting and forecasting activities. This role requires a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with strong technical accounting expertise, leadership capabilities, and a continuous improvement mindset.The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Chief Accounting Officer and will be responsible for overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. This will involve preparing and reviewing financial statements and supporting schedules, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies, and supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a CPA, CMA, or other higher education degree/designation preferred. The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a remote team is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional departments to support business objectives.
What You Will Do
- Assist in overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
- Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls
- Coordinate and support external audits and tax-related activities
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Monitor general ledger activity and account reconciliations
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and increased efficiency
- Support cash management and working capital initiatives
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to support business objectives
- Assist with ERP system enhancements and financial reporting tools
- Bring a comfort with technology to the role, recommending tools and improvements to the Chief Accounting Officer and helping implement them to streamline workflows
- Assist in creating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) to document key accounting processes and promote consistency
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- CPA, CMA, or other higher education degree/designation preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
- Public accounting experience is a plus
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a remote team
- Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional departments to support business objectives
- Comfort with technology and the ability to recommend tools and improvements to streamline workflows
