About the Role
The Assistant Controller, Revenue, plays a pivotal role in Coinbase's dynamic finance team, overseeing and optimizing all aspects of revenue recognition processes. This critical position demands a deep understanding of ASC 606 and IFRS 15, as well as strong process and analytical skills. What You Will Do
- Lead the application of ASC 606 and IFRS 15 to complex crypto-native transactions, such as spot trading fees, staking rewards, and NFT royalties.
- Develop and maintain robust revenue recognition and reporting processes tailored to crypto products and services.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of revenue transactions in compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and company policies.
- Oversee month-end and quarter-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and data teams to ensure proper revenue accounting treatment for new product launches.
- Identify and implement improvements to revenue systems, processes, and controls, leveraging blockchain data and automation tools.
- Implement and monitor internal controls over revenue cycles to ensure SOX compliance and mitigate risks.
- Support internal and external audit requests, staying current with evolving accounting standards and crypto industry best practices.
- Manage and mentor the Revenue team, fostering collaboration across departments and developing junior team members.
- Lead or participate in special projects related to financial infrastructure, new product launches, and strategic initiatives.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation required.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 4-5 years directly focused on revenue recognition within a financial institution.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply accounting standards, including ASC 606 and IFRS 15.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex financial scenarios.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams.
- Passion for the digital asset space and a commitment to staying current with industry developments.
- Experience with financial planning and analysis, including budgeting and forecasting.
Nice to Have
- Experience with blockchain technology and cryptocurrency transactions.
- Familiarity with financial planning and analysis tools, such as Excel, and accounting software.
- Certification in a related field, such as CFA or CMA.
