About the Role
The Assistant Director, Data Science position at Liberty Mutual is a key leadership role within the Global Risk Solutions (GRS) Data Science Solutions team. As a seasoned data science professional, you will be responsible for leading modeling efforts, overseeing junior staff, and driving business growth through predictive analytics and technical expertise. The GRS Data Science Solutions team is a one-stop-shop for all things data science in the commercial and specialty space, supporting a wide range of models spanning from submission, underwriting, and claims.The Model Automation & Product team, where this role is situated, focuses on supporting a wide variety of models using various techniques, including GLMs, ML, and GenAI. The team's mission is to support models in their purview and perform updates to models that become stale. As Assistant Director, Data Science, you will be at the forefront of driving innovation and excellence in the field of data science.
What You Will Do
- Lead modeling efforts, including oversight of junior staff and responsibility for larger components of projects of moderate to high complexity
- Explore technical solutions to support model deployment and perform ad hoc analyses in support of products
- Partner across functions as needed to coordinate delivery plans, testing, training, and support
- Lead problem resolution as needed to ensure that internal and external customers receive prompt, efficient service
- Develop and maintain broad knowledge of predictive analytic techniques and statistical diagnostics of models
- Stay up-to-date with the latest predictive toolsets and reflect as an expert resource for tool development
- Network with key contacts outside own area of expertise to stay informed about industry trends and best practices
- Establish and build relationships within the aligned functional area or Strategic Business Unit (SBU)
- Give effective training and presentations to peers, management, and less senior business leaders
- Use results of analysis to persuade team or department management to a particular course of action
What We Are Looking For
- Broad knowledge of predictive analytic techniques and statistical diagnostics of models
- Expert knowledge of predictive toolsets and the ability to reflect as an expert resource for tool development
- Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely
- Ability to establish and build relationships within the aligned functional area or SBU
- Ability to give effective training and presentations to peers, management, and less senior business leaders
- Ability to use results of analysis to persuade team or department management to a particular course of action
- Competencies typically acquired through a Ph.D. degree (in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or other scientific field of study) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
- Alternatively, a Master's degree (in a scientific field of study) and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree (in a scientific field of study) and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience

- Experience with GenAI and its applications in data science

- Certification in data science or a related field
