Job Description
About the Role
The AVP, Actuarial Modernization, will play a critical role in leading the strategic redesign of Property & Casualty (P&C) Actuarial Operations at Nationwide. This executive will be responsible for driving the successful implementation of the Actuarial Modernization program, overseeing the development of updated data, modeling, and analysis technology, and ensuring that these solutions are implemented in a well-governed and risk-managed environment. As a key member of the Finance team, this role will require close collaboration with various stakeholders, including IT, to ensure the effective integration of technology and business needs.The AVP will lead a team of professionals and oversee the work of multiple project teams, ensuring that individual project goals and outcomes align with the overall program objectives. This role will also involve working closely with organizational change management teams to identify and mitigate potential risks, develop effective communication strategies, and ensure that users are prepared to accept and efficiently use new processes and technologies.
What You Will Do
- Lead the strategy to redesign P&C Actuarial operations, tools, and platforms to optimize processes, roles, and responsibilities across the function
- Develop workforce strategies to evolve the P&C actuarial profession in areas such as recruitment, professional development, and retention
- Fulfill responsibilities of business delivery executive for the Actuarial Modernization program, leading a program team to design and implement solutions that meet business needs
- Ensure the overall integrity and consistency of business goals and process definitions, allowing for well-designed requirements, design, and implementation
- Oversee the transition to a new target operating model using a new model platform, including model risk management
- Oversee the implementation of data governance in line with Enterprise standards and the use of newly created data infrastructure
- Collaborate with Program Requirements lead to ensure the alignment of business goals and process definitions
- Identify organizational change impact and training needs, and develop change management strategies to ensure users are prepared to accept new processes and technologies
- Manage a team of associates and oversee the work of dedicated Nationwide resources and consultant engagements
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders, including IT, to ensure effective collaboration and integration of technology and business needs
What We Are Looking For
- BS degree or higher in a relevant field, such as actuarial science, mathematics, or statistics
- FCAS designation preferred
- 15+ years of experience in the field of modeling, risk management, financial projections, valuation, product development, or other key actuarial functions
- Strong strategic thinking and ability to identify organizational needs and develop multi-year strategic plans
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and influence stakeholders
- Experience in leading large-scale programs and managing cross-functional teams
- Strong knowledge of actuarial operations, risk management, and data governance
- Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with data analysis and modeling tools, such as Excel, SQL, and statistical software
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud-based technologies and data infrastructure
- Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence applications in actuarial science
- Experience with Agile project management methodologies
- Certification in data science or a related field
