Job Description

About the Role

The Backend Engineer, AI Security role at Stripe is a foundational position that requires a unique blend of technical expertise and innovative thinking. As a member of the AI security team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing secure AI infrastructure, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and staying ahead of emerging threats. Your day-to-day work will involve designing and building security frameworks, partnering with AI infrastructure teams, and supporting the integration of security primitives.

The AI security team is a critical component of Stripe's overall security strategy, and as a key member of this team, you will play a vital role in shaping the company's approach to AI security. You will work closely with other engineering teams to ensure that Stripe's AI infrastructure and products are built with security in mind from the outset.

What You Will Do

  • Design and implement security frameworks integrated with Stripe's core AI infrastructure
  • Develop and deploy security tooling to detect and prevent AI-specific threats, such as prompt injection and jailbreaks
  • Collaborate with AI infrastructure teams to ensure secure and reliable AI systems
  • Support the integration of security primitives across multiple engineering teams
  • Uphold Stripe's high engineering standards and contribute to the improvement of the codebase and processes
  • Partner with other teams to build and maintain reliable infrastructure systems
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for security frameworks and tooling
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging threats and countermeasures in the AI security landscape
  • Contribute to the development of Stripe's AI security strategy and roadmap

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of software development experience, with a focus on security engineering and AI development
  • Experience designing and developing medium to large-scale projects, with a strong understanding of security principles and practices
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple engineering teams, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience writing high-quality code in a major programming language, with a focus on security and reliability
  • Ability to drive clear next steps in an ambiguous environment, with a strong ability to think creatively and reason clearly in complex problem domains
  • Strong understanding of AI security threats and countermeasures, with experience in security engineering and AI development
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and containerization technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and version control systems, such as Git

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing, deploying, and maintaining reliable infrastructure systems, with a focus on security and scalability
  • Experience in security engineering, with a strong understanding of security principles and practices
