About the Role

Posthog is seeking a highly skilled backend engineer to join its APM team, tasked with building systems that can efficiently process vast amounts of data. This role is pivotal in ensuring the company's products, such as its data warehouse and customer data platform, continue to meet the high standards of performance and reliability that Posthog's clients expect. As a member of the APM team, the successful candidate will work closely with other engineers and product teams to identify and solve complex data processing challenges.

What You Will Do

  • Design and develop scalable backend systems capable of handling Petabytes of data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements.
  • Implement and maintain high-quality, reliable, and efficient code.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure the highest standards of quality and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Contribute to the development of Posthog's products, including its data warehouse and customer data platform.
  • Work closely with the product team to understand customer needs and develop solutions that meet those needs.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation of backend systems.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in backend engineering.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience in building scalable backend systems, preferably with experience handling large datasets.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages relevant to backend development.
  • Experience with Adjust or similar tools for data processing and analysis.
  • Understanding of database systems, including data warehousing and customer data platforms.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a distributed team.
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with async communication tools and practices.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with machine learning or AI technologies, particularly in applying these to product analytics.
  • Knowledge of front-end development principles and technologies, to facilitate collaboration with front-end teams.
  • Experience with security practices and protocols for protecting sensitive customer data.
  • Participation in open-source projects or personal coding projects that demonstrate innovative problem-solving.
