About the Role
The BESS Engineer I role at SOLV Energy is a remote position responsible for supporting the design, development, and implementation of battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects. As a key member of the engineering team, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of BESS solutions that meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include reviewing designs and engineering plans, coordinating with engineers and vendors, and providing technical oversight during procurement and construction.The BESS Engineer I role is critical to the success of SOLV Energy's BESS projects, and as such, you will be expected to stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements. You will also participate in system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability. With a strong focus on collaboration and communication, you will work closely with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.

What You Will Do
- Review designs and engineering plans for BESS projects to ensure compliance with contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements
- Coordinate with Engineers of Record and third-party engineering partners to ensure scope clarity and timely delivery
- Provide technical oversight during procurement, including vendor recommendations and drawing reviews
- Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems
- Participate in system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability
- Provide engineering support during construction, including field issue resolution, design clarifications, and minor redesigns
- Support procurement with technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components
- Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in regular team meetings and calls
- Travel as required to support project execution
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 1+ years of electrical engineering experience with a focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems
- Knowledge of design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems
- Familiarity with BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards)
- Understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to dynamic project requirements, and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and Bluebeam
Nice to Have
- Experience with EPC engineering workflows, including design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners
- Knowledge of communication protocols used in SCADA and Energy Management Systems (IEC 61850)
- Experience supporting solar, BESS, power, or civil/site projects, including exposure to pre-construction and execution phases
- Certification in electrical engineering or a related field
