About the Role

The Billing and Certified Coding Specialist I role at Beth Israel Lahey Health is a unique opportunity for a skilled medical coder to join a dynamic team of healthcare professionals. As a remote worker, you will be responsible for reviewing and interpreting third-party payments, adjustments, and coding denials for all professional services. You will work closely with the Billing Supervisor and Coding Manager to resolve complex issues and denials through independent research and assigned projects.

What You Will Do

  • Review and interpret third-party payments, adjustments, and coding denials for all professional services
  • Utilize Excel to analyze and track coding data
  • Work closely with the Billing Supervisor and Coding Manager to resolve complex issues and denials
  • Review provider documentation to determine appropriate coding and initiate corrected claims and appeals
  • Perform hands-on coding, documentation review, and other coding needs for ICD-9, ICD-10
  • Confer regularly with the Coding Department to review and discuss coding denials and education
  • Maintain certification requirements for coding
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest medical coding regulations and guidelines
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and efficient billing and coding processes
  • Identify and resolve coding discrepancies and issues
  • Develop and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy

What We Are Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in medical coding
  • Certification in medical coding (CPC, CCS, or equivalent)
  • Excellent knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, and other medical coding systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to stay up-to-date with the latest medical coding regulations and guidelines
  • Experience with Excel and other billing and coding software

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Epic or other electronic health record systems
  • Knowledge of medical billing and reimbursement processes
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting
  • Certification in medical billing (CMBS or equivalent)
  • Experience working in a remote or telecommuting environment
