About the Role
Biologists with a background in programming are in high demand, and Mindrift is at the forefront of this trend. As a freelance AI trainer, you will have the opportunity to work on project-based initiatives, designing computational biology problems to challenge and improve AI systems. This role matters because it enables the development of more sophisticated AI models, which can be applied to various industries, from healthcare to technology.The day-to-day responsibilities of this position involve collaborating with a team of specialists to create, test, and evaluate AI systems. What You Will Do
- Design computational biology problems that require specialized tools like NEURON, Brian2, or OpenSim
- Write Python reference solutions for these problems
- Supply input files and model or network definitions as needed
- Decide the numerical answer and tolerance for each problem
- Test problems against AI models in batches of parallel attempts
- Tune problem difficulty to achieve a pass rate of 10-30%
- Collaborate with senior reviewers to ensure task quality
- Learn from feedback and adapt to new challenges
- Continuously develop your skills in computational biology and Python
- Work on diverse projects, applying your expertise to real-world problems
What We Are Looking For
- Degree in Biology or a related field
- 2+ years of research, applied, or teaching experience
- Python proficiency for writing reference solutions
- Fluency with at least one scriptable computational biology package
- Ability to design problems that genuinely require a specialized solver
- Strong written English skills (C1+)
- Willingness to learn and adapt quickly
- Experience with programmatic tools
- Familiarity with Linux containers and batch processing
Nice to Have
- Experience with NEURON, Brian2, NEST, OpenSim, AMICI, libroadrunner, MNE-Python, or Biopython
