About the Role
The Biology QA Lead role at YO IT Consulting is a remote contract position that entails overseeing the quality, consistency, and performance of trainers across biology AI training projects. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for reviewing AI-generated biology content, evaluating output quality against project guidelines, and providing precise written feedback to ensure that all contributors adhere to the expected quality standards.The role matters because the accuracy and quality of biology training data directly impact the performance of AI models. With the increasing reliance on AI in various industries, the need for high-quality training data has become crucial. As a Biology QA Lead, you will play a vital role in ensuring that the biology training data meets the required standards, which in turn will contribute to the development of more accurate and reliable AI models.
In terms of team context, you will be working with remote technical teams, including trainers, annotators, reviewers, and researchers. Your role will involve communicating effectively with these teams, providing feedback, and ensuring that all contributors follow the expected quality standards.
What You Will Do
- Review AI-generated biology content and evaluate output quality against project guidelines
- Provide precise written feedback to trainers and contributors to ensure adherence to quality standards
- Assess work for scientific accuracy, biological reasoning, terminology correctness, experimental logic, unit consistency, safety awareness, clarity, formatting, instruction-following, and adherence to project-specific rubrics
- Identify recurring quality issues and communicate updates to trainers and QAs
- Support onboarding of new contributors and maintain documentation
- Help activate contributors who are not working consistently
- Collaborate with remote technical teams to ensure quality workflows
- Evaluate biology content against detailed rubrics and identify issues such as incorrect assumptions, flawed experimental reasoning, inaccurate terminology, missing context, unsafe recommendations, hallucinated facts, incomplete explanations, or misleading scientific claims
- Develop and maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, onboarding materials, honeypots, calibration tasks, and other quality documentation
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Neuroscience, Physiology, or a closely related field
- Strong grasp of the English language to follow project guidelines, communicate with teams, and provide clear scientific feedback in English
- 3+ years of professional experience in biology research, laboratory work, teaching, scientific writing, technical review, quality control, biotechnology, life sciences, or related workflows
- Strong understanding of core biology topics such as cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, anatomy, developmental biology, and experimental design
- Ability to evaluate biology content against detailed rubrics and identify issues such as incorrect assumptions, flawed experimental reasoning, inaccurate terminology, missing context, unsafe recommendations, hallucinated facts, incomplete explanations, or misleading scientific claims
- Familiarity with common biology tools or workflows such as laboratory documentation, microscopy, PCR/qPCR, sequencing, gel electrophoresis, cell culture, ELISA, bioinformatics basics, statistical interpretation, safety data sheets, or scientific literature review
- Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, researchers, technical writers, educators, or QAs
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI training, data annotation, large language models, prompt/response evaluation, scientific content QA, or rubric-based LLM evaluation
- Familiarity with tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems
- Experience with quality monitoring, quality control, or quality assurance in a biology or AI context
