About the Role
The Business Development Representative role at Gitlab is a critical component of the company's sales strategy, responsible for identifying and engaging with key decision-makers at target accounts. As a BDR, you will be expected to leverage your knowledge of the sales process, combined with your understanding of the DevSecOps landscape, to drive meaningful conversations and generate qualified leads. You will be working closely with the Field and Digital Marketing teams, as well as the Sales and Customer Success teams, to ensure a cohesive approach to customer engagement.Gitlab's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction is evident in its approach to sales and customer success. Your day-to-day activities will involve a combination of outbound prospecting, lead qualification, and sales strategy development, all with the goal of driving revenue growth and expanding Gitlab's customer base.
What You Will Do
- Execute outbound prospecting initiatives to generate qualified meetings and pipeline in your assigned territory
- Conduct high-level discovery conversations with target accounts to understand business needs, qualify opportunities, and create Sales Accepted Opportunities (SAOs)
- Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly BDR-sourced Sales Accepted Opportunity (SAO) targets by consistently converting qualified prospects into opportunities
- Research and prioritize target accounts using business and industry knowledge to identify key players, uncover compelling events, and develop tailored outreach strategies
- Execute a multi-touch outreach cadence (call, email, social, etc.) to all prospects in your assigned territory using Outreach.io to maximize engagement and conversion
- Collaborate with the Sales and Customer Success teams to ensure a seamless handoff of qualified leads and to drive customer satisfaction
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Gitlab's product offerings and the DevSecOps landscape, including industry trends and competitor activity
- Utilize Salesforce and other sales tools to manage your pipeline, track activity, and analyze performance metrics
- Participate in regular sales meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on sales strategies and best practices
What We Are Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in a sales or business development role, preferably in the software or technology industry
- Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets
- Strong understanding of the sales process, including prospecting, lead qualification, and sales strategy development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with key decision-makers
- Experience with sales tools such as Salesforce, Outreach.io, and Excel
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and develop actionable insights
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong business acumen, with a deep understanding of the DevSecOps landscape and industry trends
Nice to Have
- Experience working with Adjust or other sales analytics tools
- Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and practices
- Certification in sales or a related field (e.g. HubSpot Sales Certification)
- Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment
- Fluency in multiple languages (preferably German, Dutch, or Irish)
