Business Systems & Automation Developer

About the Role

Day-to-day, the role entails designing, building, maintaining, and improving automation workflows across the business, working closely with internal teams to understand their workflows, pain points, and system requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of both software and real business operations, allowing them to translate business problems into clear technical solutions and development tasks.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, maintain, and improve automation workflows across the business using n8n, Power Automate, APIs, webhooks, cloud functions, database triggers, and scheduled jobs.
• Build and manage workflow automations, focusing on efficiency and scalability.
• Maintain and improve integrations between key business platforms, including Xero, AroFlo, HubSpot, Cin7, WooCommerce, WordPress, QuickBooks Time / TSheets, BambooHR, Power Apps, Power BI, Azure SQL, and n8n.
• Troubleshoot data sync issues, failed API calls, authentication problems, and inconsistent records between platforms, ensuring seamless operations.
• Support and develop cloud-based solutions using Microsoft Azure, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Functions, Azure App Service, Azure Storage, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights.
• Build internal tools such as simple web apps, admin portals, dashboards, forms, and workflow interfaces to enhance business processes.
• Maintain and improve Power Apps used by internal teams, ensuring they meet current and evolving business needs.
• Work with SQL databases to store, clean, transform, and report business data, leveraging database skills for data analysis and insights.
• Support Power BI dashboards and reporting datasets for finance, operations, management, inventory, and sales teams, providing critical business intelligence.
• Maintain and improve finance-related automations, invoice workflows, supplier data, purchase information, transaction reporting, and operational reporting, streamlining financial operations.
• Collaborate directly with internal teams to understand workflows, pain points, and system requirements, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Translate business problems into clear technical solutions and development tasks, acting as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Provide support when automations, integrations, reports, or internal tools fail, ensuring minimal downtime and rapid resolution.
• Document automation logic, dependencies, system changes, failure points, and support processes, maintaining thorough technical documentation.
• Train staff on how to use new tools and improved workflows, promoting user adoption and proficiency.

What We Are Looking For

• Experience with workflow automation tools, especially n8n, and a strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, scheduled jobs, and system integrations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently, with a practical mindset focused on building useful, simple solutions.
• Experience with SQL databases, preferably Azure SQL or SQL Server, and the ability to work with data transformation, reporting workflows, and business process improvement.
• Experience working with data transformation, reporting workflows, and business process improvement, with a focus on enhancing business efficiency.
• Ability to build and troubleshoot internal business tools, forms, dashboards, admin portals, or workflow interfaces, with proficiency in relevant programming languages.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services and cloud deployment basics, including Azure Functions, Azure App Service, Azure SQL Database, Azure Storage, Azure Key Vault, Azure Logic Apps, and Docker.
• Ability to work with non-technical stakeholders and understand business requirements, with clear communication skills to explain technical issues in simple language.
• Strong AI understanding and the ability to create custom solutions, with a focus on leveraging technology for business advantage.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Python, JavaScript / TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js or React, and familiarity with FastAPI or similar backend frameworks.
• Knowledge of GitHub, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD workflows, with experience in managing and deploying code efficiently.
• Familiarity with n8n cloud or self-hosted workflows, and experience with Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI.
