About the Role
The Certified Medical Coder position at Cartwheel is a crucial part of the company's mission to support student mental health. As a certified medical coder, you will be responsible for leading coding strategy and execution, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and enabling scalable automation. This role will partner closely with the RCM Director to translate complex coding requirements into operational workflows and systems.The day-to-day responsibilities of this position will involve performing complex coding for CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10, with a focus on high-impact, payer-sensitive services. You will also lead the expansion and validation of billable services, ensuring that Cartwheel's coding strategy is optimized for maximum reimbursement.

What You Will Do
- Perform complex coding for CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 with a focus on high-impact, payer-sensitive services
- Lead the expansion and validation of billable services, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Partner with the RCM Director to translate complex coding requirements into operational workflows and systems
- Develop and implement coding strategies to optimize reimbursement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of coding processes
- Stay up-to-date on industry developments and coding regulations, applying this knowledge to improve Cartwheel's coding strategy
- Analyze and resolve coding-related issues, ensuring that Cartwheel's coding processes are efficient and effective
- Develop and maintain documentation of coding processes and procedures
- Provide training and support to other team members on coding-related topics
What We Are Looking For
- Certified Medical Coder (CMC) certification
- 3+ years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a mental health or healthcare setting
- Deep expertise in Medicaid and Managed Care Organizations (MCOs)
- Advanced modifier application and research of new/complex codes
- Strong understanding of coding regulations and industry developments
- Experience with coding software and systems
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks

- Experience with automated coding systems
