About the Role
The Chief of Staff at Malama Health will play a critical role in driving the company's growth and scalability. As the operational backbone of the organization, this individual will oversee finance, HR, and payer operations, ensuring that the company is well-run, compliant, and positioned for success. The Chief of Staff will work closely with the leadership team to develop and implement strategic plans, drive market activation, and build a strong foundation for the company's future growth.The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the healthcare industry, including payer operations, Medicaid managed care, and value-based contracting. They will be a seasoned leader with experience in operations, strategy, or healthcare administration, and a proven track record of building and overseeing functions.

The company's Care Navigators and doulas work tirelessly to provide presence, confidence, and calm to moms in need, and the Chief of Staff will be responsible for ensuring that the organization has the operational framework in place to support this critical work.
What You Will Do
- Oversee finance and accounting functions, including serving as the management layer above the fractional finance team
- Manage the relationship with the fractional CFO and hold the function accountable to deliverables
- Oversee HR services, including managing the relationship with the HR services provider and ensuring payroll, benefits administration, and compliance are running smoothly
- Own team operations, including serving as the point of contact for expense policy, offsite logistics, budget questions, and day-to-day operational matters
- Support executive bandwidth by shielding the CEO's time from operational and administrative workstreams
- Prepare briefings and follow-up documentation for high-priority external meetings
- Own state credentialing and provider enrollment, including overseeing the credentialing team and ensuring deadlines are met
- Lead market activation, including coordinating across clinical, legal, and BD to remove blockers and keep go-live timelines on track
- Drive payer readiness, including producing briefings, readiness assessments, and market entry playbooks
- Build for replication, including ensuring every market entry produces a playbook that makes the next one faster
What We Are Looking For
- 7+ years of experience in operations, chief of staff, strategy, or healthcare administration
- Demonstrated experience in payer operations, Medicaid managed care, or value-based contracting
- Experience managing or overseeing finance functions, including holding a controller, AP/AR team, or fractional CFO accountable to deliverables
- Experience overseeing HR services or people operations, including vendor management, compliance, and employee relations
- Experience navigating multi-state regulatory or licensing environments in healthcare
- Exceptional judgment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
Nice to Have
- Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment
- Knowledge of healthcare policy and regulation, including Medicaid and Medicare
- Experience with project management tools and software, such as Asana or Trello
- Certification in a relevant field, such as healthcare administration or operations management
