About the Role
The role of a Chinese Linguist at SOSi is pivotal in supporting a US Government Client. This position involves serving as a subject matter expert, utilizing Chinese language skills and cultural knowledge to translate materials into clear and understandable English. The successful candidate will work remotely, leveraging technology to collaborate with the team and meet deadlines efficiently.The day-to-day responsibilities of this role are centered around translating, summarizing, and gisting Chinese printed, electronic, or audio/visual materials into English. This involves not only linguistic expertise but also an understanding of the cultural nuances and context in which the materials are used. The candidate will be part of a diverse team working in a fast-paced environment, where the ability to engage collaboratively and manage time effectively is crucial.
As a key member of the team, the Chinese Linguist will also be involved in answering client questions, adhering to client-specific style and translation standards, and efficiently utilizing client tools and workflows. This role is contingent upon the award of a contract and requires the candidate to be adaptable and flexible.
What You Will Do
- Translate Chinese materials into clear, understandable, and idiomatically correct English.
- Summarize and gist Chinese printed, electronic, or audio/visual materials for client use.
- Leverage knowledge of Chinese culture and media to answer client questions accurately.
- Adhere to client style and translation standards for all products.
- Efficiently use client-specific tools and workflows.
- Meet deadlines, including same-day translations as required.
- Participate in collaborative team efforts to achieve project goals.
- Conduct open-source research to support translation tasks.
- Utilize Microsoft Teams, Excel, and Word for productivity and communication.
What We Are Looking For
- High School Diploma and at least three years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in Chinese at the 4/4+ (ILR) level, determined by standardized language exams.
- Expertise related to countries and regions where Chinese is spoken natively.
- Experience with open-source research and support.
- Familiarity with product creation, dissemination, collection management, and workflow support.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a virtual environment.
- Strong time and task management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
- Experience supporting the Intelligence Community (IC).
- Knowledge of additional languages spoken in regions where Chinese is prevalent.
- Certification in translation or a related field.
- Experience with remote work and virtual team collaboration.
