About the Role
The CNC Machinist Milling role at CX2 is a unique opportunity for a skilled professional to join a next-generation defense technology company. As the first CNC Machinist, you will play a key role in building out the company's machining capabilities for prototypes, tools, and fixtures, as well as small batch production of flight-critical components. You will work closely with engineers, technicians, and machine operators to ensure critical dimensions are met and provide guidance on CNC milling.The company's AI-enabled hardware and software platforms are designed to detect, disrupt, and defend the electromagnetic spectrum across various domains. As a member of the manufacturing team, you will be responsible for operating 3-axis CNC mills, programming, and setup, as well as assisting with one-off components and setups.
What You Will Do
- Operate 3-axis CNC mills and perform routine maintenance tasks
- Program and setup jobs for CNC mills with minimal assistance
- Interpret engineering blueprints and ensure all components are machined to exact aerospace specifications
- Work with the tightest tolerances in a prototype-heavy, low-volume production environment
- Provide feedback and process improvements to the engineering team
- Manage production data, including CAM files
- Assist in the procurement of machines and cutting tools
- Mentor and provide guidance to engineers, technicians, and machine operators
- Act as an internal expert on CNC milling
- Help spec and purchase new machines and tools
- Collaborate with the team to increase production and reduce cycle times
What We Are Looking For
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC machining, with a strong background in prototyping and one-off production
- Minimum 2 years of experience with CAM software and ability to program 3-axis mills
- Experience working to aerospace manufacturing requirements, such as AS9100D or ISO 9001
- Ability to interpret blueprints and recommend machinability improvements
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles
- Strong communication skills and ability to effectively interface with engineering, manufacturing, and production personnel
- Ability to work independently and solve machining challenges
- Experience with CNC lathe setup, programming, and operation
- Conventional mill and lathe operation experience
- Hand fabrication and prototyping experience
Nice to Have
- Experience with aerospace flight hardware or drone manufacturing
- CAD experience, preferably with SolidWorks, designing fixturing or workholding
- Strong GD&T skills
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs and stand for long periods
