About the Role

The Coder, Edits/Denials role at QHR is a critical position that requires a high level of expertise in medical coding and billing. As a Coder, Edits/Denials, you will be responsible for reviewing medical records to determine appropriate billing codes and necessary documentation. This role is essential to ensuring that healthcare providers receive accurate and timely reimbursement for their services.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in medical coding, excellent analytical skills, and attention to detail. You will be working closely with a team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and other coders, to ensure that medical records are accurate and complete.

What You Will Do

  • Review medical records to determine appropriate billing codes and necessary documentation
  • Perform advanced coding and appeal activities, including investigating payer issues and completing charge corrections
  • Create letters to substantiate the validity of claims
  • Meet with facility liaisons to review documentation and resolve coding issues
  • Investigate and problem-solve reimbursement issues in collaboration with other coding staff and faculty
  • Work directly with facility liaisons or other clinical staff as needed to provide documentation feedback and develop appeals
  • Research payer policies and processes
  • Review clinical documentation in the medical record to identify all pertinent facts necessary to select comprehensive diagnoses and procedures
  • Work assigned work queues and tasks, and review remittance advice for rejections and accuracy of payment amounts as needed
  • Identify invoices or claims that have been rejected per billing edits/criteria

What We Are Looking For

  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
  • Experience working with AR teams to resolve issues
  • Ability to pass a coding assessment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Teams
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet productivity standards
  • Experience working in a remote environment
  • CCS, AHIMA, CCS-P, CPC, AAPC, CPC-A, or AAPC credentials
  • Three or more years of coding experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHRs)
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and guidelines
  • Certification in medical billing and coding
