About the Role
The Coding Integrity Specialist role at OU Health is a unique opportunity for a skilled professional to work remotely and make a meaningful impact on the healthcare industry. As a member of the Revenue Integrity team, this position entails working closely with physicians and other team members to educate on coding processes and practices, as well as conducting audits to ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT codes, as well as excellent communication and analytical skills. This role is ideal for those who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a remote setting.
What You Will Do
- Review and evaluate hospital outpatient medical record documentation to assign, sequence, edit, and/or validate ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT codes
- Perform coding and/or code validation across OU Health
- Apply all appropriate coding guidelines and criteria for code selections
- Assign, validate, and/or edit codes for various patient types, including same day surgery, observation, wound care, and outpatient cardiac cath
- Maintain or exceed established productivity and accuracy standards
- Initiate, validate, and/or edit physician queries in compliance with company policy
- Review official data quality standards, coding guidelines, company policies, and clinical/medical resources to stay current on coding knowledge and skills
- Utilize complete medical record documentation in code assignment, validation, and/or editing of codes
- Follow all applicable coding guidance in assigning, sequencing, validating, and/or editing of codes
What We Are Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in HIM/HIT preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in acute care observation and/or same day surgery hospital outpatient coding required
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or NHA CBCS certification required
- Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT codes
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting
Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs)
- Certification in a specialized area of coding, such as risk adjustment or clinical documentation improvement
