About the Role

The College Counselor position at Galin Education is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of high school students and their families as they navigate the complex college admissions process. This role entails working closely with students from the early junior year through graduation, providing personalized guidance and support every step of the way. The ideal candidate will be an integral part of the admissions counseling team, reporting to the Director of Admissions Counseling and collaborating with other counselors and essay coaches.

The day-to-day responsibilities of this role are both challenging and rewarding, requiring a deep understanding of the college admissions landscape, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to connect with students and parents from diverse backgrounds. The counselor will work flexibly, including later afternoons, evenings, and weekends, as coordinated with families and the team. What You Will Do

  • Work with high school students and their families through all aspects of the college admissions process
  • Communicate regularly with parents to keep them informed of their child's progress and college plans
  • Utilize publicly available data to inform advice and expertise, ensuring that students are well-matched with potential colleges
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on trends in college admissions
  • Develop training and educational materials for personal and team development
  • Build and maintain relationships with local high school counselors and other educational experts
  • Coordinate events and write blogs and articles targeted at high school students and their parents to build the caseload
  • Support other college counselors and essay coaches in their work with students
  • Directly advise students on college options, application strategies, and financial aid opportunities
  • Manage a caseload of students, ensuring each receives personalized guidance and support

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • A minimum of three years of experience in admissions at a selective college or as an independent college counselor, or a minimum of five years of experience working as a counselor in a high school
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Attention to detail, with strong organizational skills
  • Expertise in using web-based tools to advise students
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Strong knowledge of the college admissions process and current trends
  • Experience with remote work tools and technologies
  • Certification in college counseling or a related field (preferred)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with digital marketing or social media to promote college counseling services
  • Familiarity with learning management systems or college admissions software
  • Certification in a related field, such as education or counseling
