About the Role
The Commercial Estimator I role at Roof Experts is a remote position that plays a crucial part in the company's success. As an estimator, your primary responsibility will be to calculate preliminary job budgets and prepare formal job bids by interpreting blueprints, performing take-offs, and estimating job costs. This involves a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as the ability to interface with clients and their representatives to ensure technical specifications and design consistency with industry standards.Day-to-day, you will be working closely with the team to maintain the company's operating systems, including CRM and project management tools. Participation in daily huddles and providing input on ongoing projects is expected, along with attending local networking groups and company marketing events to expand your professional network and stay updated on industry trends.
What You Will Do
- Calculate preliminary job budgets and prepare formal job bids through interpreting blueprints and estimating job costs.
- Interface with clients and their representatives to ensure that technical specifications and design are consistent with industry standards.
- Keep current and maintain the company's operating systems, including CRM and project management tools.
- Attend daily huddles and provide input on ongoing projects.
- Join one local networking group and attend meetings to expand your professional network.
- Participate in company marketing events and activities.
- Keep the office organized and presentable, adhering to high standards of professionalism.
- Attend continuing education or training classes on roofing to stay updated on the latest technologies and methods.
- Work with managers to set monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals, aligning your efforts with the company's strategic objectives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with current customers and new General Contractors.
- Create project bid files in Stack for assigned bids, ensuring all necessary documents are included.
- Attend pre-bid meetings when available and be prepared to obtain field measurements, job site photos, and other critical information.
- Create pre-bid requirement checklists and obtain bidders lists when multiple GCs are bidding on a project.
- Perform quantity take-offs from drawings and create bids in Stack Estimating Software, obtaining pricing from distributors and setting labor pricing with your manager.
- Write detailed proposals including scope of work, exclusions, and price, and peer review proposals as needed.
- Submit proposals to GCs/Owners and follow up to determine the status of your bids.
- Review contracts with management when awarded a contract and complete contract files for hand-off.
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum of 3+ years of commercial estimating experience, with Edge experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings or client sketches.
- Ability to assist in designing roofing solutions.
- Great communication skills, both written and oral, to effectively interact with clients and team members.
- Ambitious team player with a timely ability to take a project to completion.
- Physical ability to lift 75 pounds and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, with no fear of heights.
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in estimating software and ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage complex bids and negotiations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Stack Estimating Software or similar estimating tools.
- Knowledge of roofing materials and construction methods.
- Certification in a related field, such as construction management or a similar professional designation.
- Previous experience in a remote work setting, with self-motivation and discipline to meet deadlines.
