About the Role
The Community Management Associate role at Wikimedia is a unique opportunity to engage and grow online communities, develop tone-of-voice guidelines, and identify real-time cultural moments. As part of the Social Team within the Foundation's External Communications department, this position plays a key role in shaping the community management approach. The ideal candidate will bring energy, creativity, and curiosity to how Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation show up across social media.The role is perfect for someone who thrives on social media trends, loves connecting with online communities, and is eager to experiment and iterate. What You Will Do
- Develop and document a community management playbook for Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation
- Experiment with and evolve each brand's social tone of voice in partnership with broader Communications teams
- Proactively identify and act on engagement opportunities to connect with new or underrepresented audiences
- Surface and amplify community stories, milestones, and impact moments that showcase the breadth and diversity of volunteer communities
- Stay current with social media platform innovations, new features, and emerging trends to enhance Wikimedia's reach
- Recommend and test community management and social listening tools to improve responsiveness and scalability
- Assist with tracking and reporting on engagement performance, community sentiment, and emerging discussions on social media platforms
- Contribute to experimentation and reporting, tracking which community management tactics resonate and helping shape a data-informed approach to growth
- Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Social Platforms, and other senior members of the Social team to achieve community management goals
- Develop a deep understanding of the Wikimedia Foundation's mission, values, and initiatives to effectively communicate with online communities
What We Are Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in community management across social media platforms
- Strong understanding of social media platform dynamics and how to craft messaging that performs on each
- Demonstrated ability to engage authentically with online communities and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style to different audiences
- Data-aware and able to use analytics to inform and evolve social strategy
- Familiarity with community management and social listening tools
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams
- Passion for digital culture, social media trends, and online community engagement
Nice to Have
- Experience with Adjust and Excel for data analysis and reporting
- Knowledge of SEO principles and how to optimize social media content for search
- Familiarity with social media advertising platforms and how to create effective ad campaigns
- Certification in social media marketing or a related field
