Job Description

About the Role

The Content and Communications Lead will play a pivotal role in shaping Float's content marketing strategy, operating across multiple channels, including SEO, social media, website, and brand storytelling. This senior builder role requires a professional who can combine strong editorial judgment with modern AI-enabled operating leverage to take Float's brand narrative to the next level. As a key member of the Marketing team, the successful candidate will help build a sharper, more scalable content and communications engine for the business.

Float is on a mission to simplify finance for Canadian businesses, empowering them to eliminate complexity and unlock new opportunities. Through its innovative platform, Float enables businesses to streamline financial operations and optimize cash flow, so they can focus on what matters most: growth. As one of Canada's fastest-growing companies, Float is customer-obsessed, passionate, and entrepreneurial, with a team that includes leaders from renowned companies like Uber, Shopify, and Top Hat.

The Content and Communications Lead will be responsible for building Float's authority and driving growth through effective content marketing. This will involve shaping how Float shows up across search, social, the website, executive narrative, and key market moments. The ideal candidate will be able to move between strategy and execution fluidly, leveraging their expertise to create compelling content that resonates with Float's target audience.

What You Will Do

  • Own and evolve Float's content and communications motion across all content pillars: SEO/AEO/GEO, social, website, performance marketing, and brand
  • Partner closely with Growth Marketing to identify content gaps, improve program effectiveness, and create content that supports awareness, engagement, acquisition, and conversion
  • Lead Float's strategy for 'search everywhere optimization,' in partnership with agency support, while improving the system behind how that work gets done
  • Own the social content calendar and channel monitoring across Float's social presence
  • Support reactive and proactive PR motions, including press requests, leadership messaging, and launch-specific media strategies
  • Contribute to brand marketing as a creative and strategic partner
  • Develop and maintain Float's brand voice and tone across all content channels
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Sales, and Customer Success, to ensure content alignment and consistency
  • Analyze content performance data to inform future content strategies and optimize existing content

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in content marketing, preferably in the fintech or finance industry
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful content marketing strategies that drive growth and engagement
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to create compelling, engaging content for various audiences
  • Experience with SEO, social media, and brand storytelling, including content creation and distribution
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style to different channels and audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using data to inform content decisions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Experience with AI-enabled content tools and platforms, including content creation and optimization
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian business finance landscape and Float's role within it

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment
  • Familiarity with project management tools, such as Asana, Trello, or Jira
  • Certification in content marketing, SEO, or a related field
  • Experience with video or audio content creation, including scriptwriting and production

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Opportunity to work with a pioneering company in the Canadian business finance industry
  • Collaborative, dynamic work environment with a team of experienced professionals
  • Flexible remote work arrangements, including the ability to work from home or a coffee shop
  • Professional development opportunities, including training and education programs
  • Access to the latest technology and tools, including AI-enabled content platforms
  • Recognition and reward programs, including bonuses and stock options
  • Comprehensive health and wellness program, including mental health support and employee assistance
  • Generous paid time off and vacation policy, including flexible holidays and birthdays off

How to Stand Out

  • Tip: Highlight your experience with SEO, social media, and brand storytelling in your application, as these skills are crucial for success in this role.
  • To stand out, create a portfolio that showcases your content creation and distribution skills, including examples of successful content marketing campaigns.
  • Be prepared to discuss your experience with AI-enabled content tools and platforms, as well as your understanding of the Canadian business finance landscape.
  • When negotiating salary, consider the company's stage of growth and the role's impact on the business, as well as your own skills and experience.
  • Red flag: If the company seems unclear about its goals or values, or if the team seems disconnected or uncommunicative, it may be a sign of a larger cultural issue.
