About the Role

The role requires a deep understanding of distributed systems, financial accuracy, and product usage patterns. The team works closely with various departments, including product, engineering, BizOps, marketing, and sales, to build systems that enable new products and pricing models. Given the complexity of the billing platform and the high volume of events processed daily, the Senior Software Engineer must be able to solve complex problems under tight constraints. This includes ensuring that customers' bills match their usage perfectly, even when processing hundreds of billions of events daily across distributed systems. The ability to design elegant solutions under such constraints is key to success in this role.

What You Will Do

• Collaborate on building the next generation of Sentry's usage tracking pipeline, focusing on processing hundreds of billions of events daily with low latency and financial-grade accuracy.
• Design flexible pricing primitives that support a wide range of billing models, from per-event usage billing to complex enterprise contracts.
• Contribute to technical decisions on data consistency challenges unique to billing, such as handling event delays, retroactive pricing changes, and distributed count reconciliation.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the billing infrastructure supports new products and pricing models, enabling rapid experimentation while maintaining revenue accuracy.
• Participate in the development of systems that provide transparent billing, ensuring customer trust and satisfaction.
• Lead or contribute to the development of tools and processes that improve the efficiency and accuracy of the billing process.
• Collaborate with the product team to understand product usage patterns and how they impact billing.
• Work with the sales team to understand enterprise contract requirements and ensure that the billing system can support these contracts.
• Engage with the marketing team to ensure that billing communications are clear and effective.
