Job Description

About the Role

Twilio is seeking a skilled Counsel, Commercial to join their team in Australia. As a Counsel, Commercial, you will be responsible for managing the full life-cycle negotiation of complex enterprise sales deals in the APJ region. You will partner with the enterprise sales team to review, negotiate, draft, and manage a wide range of legal agreements. Your expertise in commercial law and experience in negotiating complex technology transactions will be essential in this role.

The commercial legal team at Twilio prides itself on providing practical and sound legal advice to the business. As a Counsel, Commercial, you will be expected to build trust with internal clients and provide guidance on contract interpretation and negotiation. You will also be responsible for ensuring Twilio's compliance policies are in practice and protecting the company from risk.

What You Will Do

  • Take ownership of the review, negotiation, drafting, and management of a wide range of legal agreements
  • Advise Twilio's internal clients on contract interpretation and negotiation
  • Champion Twilio's mission, ethics, and integrity by ensuring Twilio's compliance policies are in practice and protect the company from risk
  • Evaluate which matters and issues are most worthy of your attention at any given time
  • Seek to understand the context of the positions of Twilio's customers and the requests from Twilio's internal clients
  • Strive to solve problems and address issues from their perspectives
  • Manage the full life-cycle negotiation of complex enterprise sales deals in the APJ region
  • Partner with the enterprise sales team to review, negotiate, draft, and manage a wide range of legal agreements
  • Ensure Twilio's compliance policies are in practice and protect the company from risk

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong academic credentials and demonstrated record of success as a lawyer (completion of an approved law degree)
  • Admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW
  • 5+ years of commercial transactions experience with at least 3 years of negotiating complex technology transactions
  • Experience supporting a large sales organization
  • Ability to structure, draft, and negotiate a high volume and broad range of commercial contracts
  • Proven ability to provide entrepreneurial, quick-thinking solutions to complex problems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a remote-first environment
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications in the legal field
  • Certification in contract management or a related field
