Counsel, Strategic Response Legal

About the Role

The Strategic Response Legal team is a critical component of Coinbase's legal department, and as such, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Compliance, Product, and Communications. Your expertise in criminal law or white collar internal investigations will be essential in managing crises, leading internal investigations, and providing strategic recommendations to company leadership.

What You Will Do

• Lead the legal response for high-intensity, high-priority projects that require seamless cross-functional orchestration across Legal, Compliance, Product, and Communications
• Conduct comprehensive, end-to-end internal investigations into sensitive matters, including interrogating data sets, interviewing stakeholders, and reconstructing complex sequences of events
• Rapidly synthesize technical and legal information from cross-functional stakeholders to frame critical decisions and communicate concise updates and strategic recommendations to company leadership
• Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and effective resolution of legal issues
• Collaborate with the Global Intelligence team to act as a liaison with law enforcement and conduct both proactive and reactive investigations
• Develop and implement effective compliance programs to prevent and address criminal activity
• Provide training and guidance to employees on legal and compliance issues
• Review and draft legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and policies
• Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including law firms, regulatory agencies, and industry associations

What We Are Looking For

• 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm, company, or regulatory/government agency
• Experience in cross-functional project management in a fast-paced environment
• Experience leading internal investigations and managing crises
• Experience interfacing with government regulators, agencies, or law enforcement
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Experience with Excel and other productivity tools

Nice to Have

• Experience in the cryptoeconomy or blockchain industry
• Certification in compliance or a related field
• Experience with data analysis and visualization tools
• Proficiency in multiple languages
