About the Role
The Creative Director, Growth, will play a pivotal role in shaping the creative vision for OpenAI's growth initiatives. This will involve establishing a high bar for storytelling, design, writing, relevance, and quality across all outputs. The ideal candidate will be a multidisciplinary creative thinker who can move seamlessly between big-picture vision and hands-on problem-solving.As part of the growth creative team, the Creative Director will work closely with Growth Marketing, Brand, Product Marketing, Production, and external agencies to raise the quality of creative output while maintaining the speed and agility required of a high-performing growth organization. This role is based in New York with periodic travel to other OpenAI offices.

This involves developing campaigns, launches, films, brand systems, and work that doesn't fit neatly into any of those categories yet. The company is looking for someone who can help shape this story in a way that feels grounded and human.
What You Will Do
- Lead creative direction across growth initiatives by establishing a high bar for storytelling, design, writing, relevance, and quality across all outputs.
- Translate business objectives, audience insights, and performance learnings into clear creative direction and breakthrough ideas.
- Develop concepts and narratives that can scale globally while remaining relevant to local audiences and cultural contexts.
- Partner closely with Growth Marketing to shape briefs, identify opportunities, and define creative approaches that balance experimentation with brand integrity.
- Steer external agencies by setting direction, providing feedback, and ensuring work meets OpenAI's standards for craft, effectiveness, and originality.
- Help evolve creative processes, frameworks, and systems that enable teams to move faster without compromising quality.
- Identify patterns in testing, audience behavior, and campaign performance to inform future creative decisions and experimentation.
- Collaborate closely with designers, writers, motion teams, producers, and strategists to bring integrated ideas to life.
- Balance long-term thinking with rapid execution, knowing when a project calls for ambitious creative exploration and when it requires pragmatic decision-making.
- Navigate ambiguity with confidence and act as a trusted creative partner to cross-functional stakeholders.
What We Are Looking For
- 10+ years of experience in creative roles, including experience leading multidisciplinary work across social, growth, and/or integrated marketing.
- A true creative generalist who can think strategically while maintaining strong instincts for execution and craft.
- Demonstrated expertise in social-first creative, with a deep understanding of how ideas translate across platforms, audiences, and evolving behaviors.
- Experience working with data and using it to inform creative decisions.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to guide teams toward stronger work through clarity, taste, and collaboration.
- Proficiency in Excel and other productivity tools.
- A portfolio demonstrating exceptional creative thinking and execution.
