About the Role

The Customer Success Engineer role at Perplexity is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of AI-powered search technology. As a key member of the technical troubleshooting team, you will provide expert guidance to customers and internal teams, driving strategic initiatives to improve the user experience. The role involves collaborating closely with the Enterprise, Mobile, and API teams to resolve complex technical issues and develop scalable solutions.

As a Customer Success Engineer, you will be responsible for becoming a technical expert for Perplexity's API and product offerings. You will serve as a dedicated technical resource and advocate for the company's most important customers, providing in-depth troubleshooting assistance and educating them on optimal use of the platforms. Your contributions will be vital in building knowledge within the team and driving process improvements.

The role is based in Tokyo, but you will be working remotely, which requires strong communication and project management skills. You will need to be able to work independently and as part of a global team, with a focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences.

What You Will Do

  • Become a technical expert for Perplexity's API and product offerings, providing guidance to customers and internal teams.
  • Serve as a dedicated technical resource and advocate for Perplexity's most important customers, resolving complex technical issues and developing scalable solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise, Mobile, and API teams to resolve issues, engaging leaders internally or with customers and coordinating resources across multiple teams as needed.
  • Translate learnings from customer issues into strategic initiatives, working with Engineering, Customer Experience, and Go-To-Market teams to implement improvements and automations.
  • Build strong relationships with customer leaders and operators to ensure the success of their applications.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and knowledge base articles to support customer success.
  • Partner with the sales team to provide technical support and guidance to customers during the sales process.
  • Conduct technical workshops and training sessions for customers to improve their understanding of Perplexity's products.
  • Analyze customer feedback and sentiment to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to address them.

What We Are Looking For

  • Fluency in English and Japanese.
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering or similar roles, with a focus on application development, tooling, and automation.
  • Excellent proficiency in Python/NodeJS and developing scalable applications.
  • Good knowledge of a Cloud Service Provider (e.g. AWS) platform.
  • Hands-on experience in using Agentic Coding (Claude Code, Codex, etc.).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Proven ability to identify technical pain points in both solutions and customers' implementations.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Business-level proficiency in Korean/Mandarin languages.
  • Strong track record of building relationships with customers and cross-functional teams to drive performance improvements.
  • Humble attitude, eagerness to help others, and willingness to acquire new knowledge to support team and customer success.
