About the Role

The Customs and Trade Compliance Specialist II role at Convatec is a critical position that supports the company's customs and trade compliance program within a regulated medical device environment. This role will be responsible for supporting corporate international customs and trade compliance projects, tasks, and operational activities for Convatec locations in the US, CA, and other global locations as needed. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will be a self-starter who enjoys partnering across the organization, learning new things, and has a "roll-up our sleeves" attitude.

The role entails working closely with the Customs and Trade Compliance team to deliver and execute a standardized compliant international trade compliance program within Convatec. This includes assisting with operational responsibilities for US/CA (and other markets as needed) customs and trade compliance programs, both import and export. The successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring import and export shipments conform to governmental rules and regulations by managing inquiries, requests from brokers, forwarders, manufacturing sites, distribution centers, etc.

What You Will Do

  • Assist the Customs and Trade Compliance team in the delivery and execution of a standardized compliant international trade compliance program within Convatec
  • Assist with operational responsibilities for US/CA (and other markets as needed) customs and trade compliance programs, both import and export
  • Ensure import and export shipments conform to governmental rules and regulations by managing inquiries, requests from brokers, forwarders, manufacturing sites, distribution centers, etc.
  • Support the Temporary Importation Under Bond (TIB) process activities for goods entering the country for temporary purposes, ensuring regulatory adherence
  • Support the FDA Import for Export (IFE) program activities, including import, export, and reconciliation processes to support product being imported into the US for sterilization and re-exported for global market allocations
  • Identify areas for process improvement in the daily resolution of customs and trade compliance-related international transactions
  • Support continuous improvement and opportunities for trade automation
  • Support Convatec's customs and trade compliance record-keeping program
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and keeping current standard operating procedures and work instructions
  • Support the review of global (UK, NL, US, etc.) Harmonized Tariff Codes (HTS) and process to update and review SAP master data, Global Classification solution, and customs broker regular database updates
  • Maintain broker and customs agency reports and KPIs, monitor broker performances, and support MBRs

What We Are Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in customs and trade compliance, preferably in a regulated industry
  • Strong knowledge of US customs regulations, including HTS classification and free trade agreements
  • Experience with international trade compliance programs, including import and export operations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as international business, logistics, or supply chain management

Nice to Have

  • Experience with customs and trade compliance software, such as Global Classification solutions
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations and requirements
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems
  • Certification in customs and trade compliance, such as CCS or CES
