About the Role
The Cybersecurity Specialist - AI Systems role at mercor is a contract position that involves reviewing and evaluating AI-generated outputs related to threat analysis, vulnerability assessment, and security architecture recommendations. This role is crucial in ensuring the security and integrity of AI systems, and the successful candidate will be working closely with research teams to refine evaluation frameworks for cybersecurity AI.As a key member of the team, the Cybersecurity Specialist will be responsible for creating realistic scenarios based on cybersecurity workflows, annotating and validating data across various use cases, and providing structured feedback on AI accuracy. The role requires strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and excellent written communication skills.
The ideal candidate will have a background in cybersecurity, with experience in areas such as SOC analysis, incident response, penetration testing, threat intelligence, or security architecture. A strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and threat intelligence standards is essential, as well as the ability to translate security operations into structured evaluation tasks.
What You Will Do
- Review and evaluate AI-generated outputs related to threat analysis, vulnerability assessment, and security architecture recommendations
- Create realistic scenarios based on cybersecurity workflows, including incident response runbooks, threat hunting queries, and penetration testing reports
- Annotate, label, and validate data across various cybersecurity use cases, such as CVE classification accuracy and SIEM alert triage
- Provide structured feedback on AI accuracy in areas such as cybersecurity frameworks and threat intelligence standards
- Collaborate asynchronously with research teams to refine evaluation frameworks for cybersecurity AI
- Develop and maintain expertise in areas such as SOC analysis, incident response, and threat intelligence
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in AI security and cybersecurity threats
- Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to the development of best practices for AI security
- Develop and maintain documentation of processes and procedures for AI security evaluations
What We Are Looking For
- 3+ years of professional experience in cybersecurity at an enterprise organization, MSSP, consultancy, or government/defense environment
- Background in areas such as SOC analysis, incident response, penetration testing, threat intelligence, or security architecture
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to translate security operations into structured evaluation tasks
- Clear written communication and attention to detail
- Experience with cybersecurity frameworks and threat intelligence standards
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically
- Experience with AI systems and machine learning algorithms is a plus
Nice to Have
- Professional certifications like CISSP, CISM, CEH, OSCP, or GIAC certifications
