Anthropic, a pioneer in reliable AI systems, is seeking a talented engineer to drive the development of its data center infrastructure. With the company's commitment to innovation and growth, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI. Candidates should be prepared to showcase their technical expertise and ability to navigate complex electrical systems.

Job Description

About the Role

The Data Center Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in designing and maintaining the electrical infrastructure for Anthropic's large-scale machine learning training facilities. This includes developing and maintaining reference designs, reviewing engineering submittals, and performing analysis to ensure the electrical architecture meets the requirements of high-density ML training. As a key member of the data center team, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware and compute, to translate accelerator requirements into electrical design criteria.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in mission-critical facilities, with a strong background in electrical engineering and a deep understanding of data center design principles. As the company continues to grow and expand its operations, the Data Center Electrical Engineer will be responsible for driving standardization of electrical designs across sites, influencing industry specifications, and evaluating electrical equipment vendors.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain Anthropic's electrical basis of design, reference architectures, and technical specifications for critical power distribution
  • Review and approve electrical design packages from build partners and MEP consultants, ensuring designs meet capacity, reliability, and maintainability requirements
  • Perform and validate engineering studies, including short-circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow, and power quality analysis
  • Partner with external engineering and manufacturing teams to evaluate DC construction efficiency opportunities and develop productization roadmaps
  • Evaluate and qualify electrical equipment vendors and product lines, working with supply chain to build a diversified vendor base
  • Drive standardization of electrical designs across sites to accelerate deployment timelines while preserving flexibility for site-specific constraints
  • Influence industry specifications and engage with equipment manufacturers on roadmap requirements for high-density, ML-optimized electrical infrastructure
  • Provide technical oversight during construction and commissioning phases, resolving field engineering issues and reviewing test results against design intent

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, with substantial time spent on data center or other high-availability electrical distribution design
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; PE licensure is valued but not required
  • Hands-on experience producing detailed electrical designs and specifications
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles, including power distribution, grounding, and bonding
  • Experience with electrical engineering software, including CAD and simulation tools
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex electrical systems and identify creative solutions
  • Experience with data center design and operations, including knowledge of industry standards and best practices

Nice to Have

  • Experience with high-density data center design, including knowledge of high-performance computing and large-scale machine learning applications
  • Familiarity with industry standards, including UL, IEEE, and NEC
  • Experience with electrical equipment vendors and product lines, including knowledge of product capabilities and limitations
  • Strong understanding of supply chain management principles, including vendor selection and management

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Opportunity to work with a pioneering company in the field of AI systems development
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment, with a team of experienced professionals
  • Professional development opportunities, including training and education programs
  • Flexible working hours and remote work options, with a stipend for home office setup
  • Access to cutting-edge technologies and equipment, including the latest electrical engineering software and tools
  • Comprehensive health insurance package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous paid time off policy, including vacation days, sick leave, and holidays

How to Stand Out

  • Develop a strong understanding of electrical design principles, including power distribution, grounding, and bonding, to stand out as a candidate.
  • Showcase your experience with electrical engineering software, including CAD and simulation tools, to demonstrate your technical expertise.
  • Highlight your ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including hardware and compute, to collaborate on complex electrical systems.
  • Be prepared to discuss your experience with data center design and operations, including knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
  • Emphasize your strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex electrical systems and identify creative solutions.
  • Include a portfolio of your work, including detailed electrical designs and specifications, to demonstrate your technical capabilities.
  • Research the company's mission and values, and be prepared to discuss how your skills and experience align with Anthropic's goals and objectives.
