About the Role

The Data Engineer role at The Planet Group is a pivotal position focused on designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale data systems. This includes creating data models, building data pipelines, and ensuring the integrity and efficiency of these systems. Day-to-day tasks involve working closely with relational databases, including schema design, queries, and performance optimization, as well as conducting DevOps activities like code reviews and testing. This role is critical in supporting the company's data-driven decision-making processes and requires a deep understanding of data governance and master data management principles.

The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team that values collaboration and innovation. The team environment is fast-paced and requires the ability to work independently as well as contribute to group efforts. Given the remote nature of the job, excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a distributed team are essential.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain large-scale data models and data pipelines
  • Work with relational databases, including schema design, queries, views, stored procedures, and performance optimization
  • Conduct data governance and master data management tasks
  • Build and execute ETL/ELT processes to integrate data between different sources
  • Develop and manage data warehouses using ETL/ELT, SQL, Data Lake, Spark, Azure Synapse, and Databricks
  • Collaborate with the DevOps team on code reviews, testing, alerting, and documenting
  • Utilize Azure's core data and analysis services, including Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Data Explorer, and Power BI
  • Participate in retrospectives and incident analysis to improve data systems
  • Ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation of data systems and processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize data needs

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Coursework in object-oriented programming, system architecture, computer networks, advanced data structures, and computer and network security
  • Experience with data modeling, data pipeline development, and data governance
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL
  • Experience with Azure services, particularly Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and Power BI
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and data warehouse development
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms
  • Knowledge of machine learning or data science principles
  • Certification in Azure data services or related technologies
  • Experience with data visualization tools beyond Power BI
