About the Role

The Data Governance Engineer role is crucial in ensuring the integrity and trustworthiness of Chime's data assets. As a key member of the data governance team, you will develop and implement policies and tools for data quality, certified datasets, and governance automation. Your primary focus will be on building trust signals and scorecards that help data consumers quickly understand and act on the reliability of Chime's data.

The role entails collaborating closely with various teams, including data engineering, analytics, product engineering, and compliance. You will be responsible for supporting Chime in data compliance and risk reduction initiatives, establishing data quality as a product discipline, and implementing governance workflows upstream where data are created.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement policies and tools for data quality, certified datasets, and governance automation
  • Build trust signals and scorecards to ensure data reliability and transparency
  • Partner with data engineering, analytics, product engineering, and compliance teams to support data compliance and risk reduction initiatives
  • Establish data quality as a product discipline and implement governance workflows upstream
  • Ensure data context and metadata are sufficient for downstream use cases, including AI applications
  • Review technical designs and implementation plans to provide guidance on appropriate development from a data governance and compliance perspective
  • Act as a trusted advisor to teams innovating at Chime
  • Advocate for Artificial Intelligence tooling and adoption at Chime
  • Contribute to internal libraries, frameworks, and orchestration workflows that enable scalable governance
  • Write production-quality code to build automation for governance and data quality processes using Terraform, Python, or similar languages

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, data engineering, or a related field
  • Strong background in data quality, certified datasets, and governance automation
  • Experience with Terraform, Python, or similar languages
  • Knowledge of data compliance and risk reduction initiatives
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including data engineering, analytics, product engineering, and compliance
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and compliance requirements
  • Ability to write production-quality code and contribute to internal libraries and frameworks

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AI tooling and adoption
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms and technologies
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems
