Job Description

About the Role

As a Data Platform Architect at Gravie, you will play a critical role in defining the technical blueprint for the company's next-generation operational data platform. This is a high-impact, senior individual contributor role that will lead through architectural depth, technical judgment, and design stewardship. You will be responsible for unifying data that spans internal operational systems, vendors, and partners, evolving beyond traditional batch processing and point-to-point integrations to a near-real-time data ecosystem.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the healthcare industry, with a strong background in data architecture, governance, and security. You will be expected to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Engineers, Data Engineers, and Data Operations teams, to drive the company's data and digital transformation efforts.

Gravie is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment, where employees can thrive and grow. As a remote-first company, we offer flexible working arrangements, professional development opportunities, and a comprehensive benefits package.

What You Will Do

  • Design the end-to-end architecture for the operational data platform, using technologies like Kafka, Debezium, and Flink to ingest and process data streams.
  • Collaborate with partner teams to define and govern reference architectures and canonical data models, such as those for claims and enrollment.
  • Define Data Contract standards and processes, working with partner teams to socialize and activate these new patterns.
  • Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, internal and external access controls, and ensure HIPAA compliance.
  • Lead the evaluation and selection of supporting real-time data technologies, aligning with Gravie's compliance needs and strategic direction.
  • Serve as the architectural authority for complex design decisions, identifying tradeoffs on time, cost, and complexity, and proactively identifying architectural risks.
  • Provide technical coaching and mentorship to Data Producer & Consumer teams.
  • Operate at the forefront of Gravie's Data Platform innovation, with an eye towards activating practical AI use cases.

What We Are Looking For

  • 8-15 years of experience architecting and operating large-scale data integrations, streaming pipelines, and operational data movement in a cloud environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kafka, Flink, and Debezium, and an understanding of stateful stream processing and 'exactly-once' delivery semantics.
  • Extensive experience with AWS and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Deep understanding of data observability concepts, such as freshness, distribution, volume, schema, and lineage, and how to apply them to real-time healthcare streams.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting, with a deep understanding of HIPAA, ePHI, and the requirements for maintaining secure data exchange and access with external parties.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL and Python, with a foundational knowledge of JVM-based languages like Java.
  • Demonstrated ability to take complex, ambiguous problems and drive them to concrete, measurable solutions that align with business goals.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data engineering tools, such as Apache Beam, Apache Spark, or similar.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies, such as Docker, and container orchestration tools, such as Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems, such as Git.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, or Power BI.

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Flexible working arrangements, with the option to work remotely.
  • Professional development opportunities, including training and conference attendance.
  • Comprehensive health insurance, including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) matching program and retirement savings plan.
  • Paid time off and holidays, including vacation and sick leave.
  • Access to cutting-edge technologies and tools, including cloud-based data platforms and data engineering tools.

How to Stand Out

  • Tip: Showcase your expertise in data governance, security, and streaming technologies, such as Kafka and Flink, to stand out as a candidate.
  • Tip: Highlight your experience with cloud-based data platforms, such as AWS, and your ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Tip: Be prepared to discuss your approach to data architecture, including your experience with canonical modeling and data contract standards.
  • Tip: Emphasize your understanding of HIPAA compliance and your experience working in a healthcare setting.
  • Tip: Showcase your proficiency in SQL and Python, and highlight any experience with data engineering tools or data visualization tools.
